I have absolutely fallen in love with Antelope Park, I first arrived as a volunteer on the horse project in January 2024 originally for 2 weeks, 2 weeks wasn’t long enough so I then extended an extra week.
When returning home, I got a new job allowing me to have a couple of weeks free before starting so I decided to come back as a volunteer again haha! Believe it or not, I am now back a third time as the stable intern working at the stables, helping our stable manager run the stables with the volunteers which has been a brilliant experience!!
I have met the most amazing people and made friends for life worldwide.
I am from London, England. What was great about volunteering at Antelope Park is that I wanted to experience the African culture and see Zimbabwe but didn’t want to be backpacking around Africa by myself therefore this was a great way to see the communities, wildlife, safari animals and enjoy riding each day on the wonderful horses they have.
Everything was planned very well to ensure you make the most out of your trip. I loved going to the soup kitchen to cook and serve food for the homeless people!
Something I really enjoyed about volunteering is that you meet so many people from all over the world.
The horses were all so lovely, ranging in lots of different abilities and turning their hooves to all disciplines. The stable manager, Ted Wilmot, is a great guy to be in charge. I expanded a lot of knowledge on how they do things differently in Africa with the horses compared to how we may do things at home. I also learnt a new discipline, polocrosse. Ted played this internationally for Zimbabwe, so the volunteers are learning from the best.
We spend the morning feeding and grooming, doing stable chores, and maintaining the stables, and then it’s time for lunch! When we arrive back in the afternoon for riding, the rides range from showjumping to cross country, horse swimming, polocrosse, safari rides, and dressage—a real mix of activities!
It is such an amazing project to be part of and experience here in Africa. It is such a varied experience you can have. The trips offered for volunteers is a perfect way to see more of the beautiful Zimbabwe and what it has to offer. An example of the trips they offer would be Matopas National Park and Victoria Falls, both utterly amazing trips.
10/10 recommend to anyone!!
