Review of the Stables Volunteering Project at Antelope Park

My name is Kim, and I came to Antelope Park to take part in the Safari Stables Project in September 2023. I originally only booked for 3 weeks but I loved it so much I extended and stayed for a month! I had so much fun and enjoyed it so much I had to stay longer.

Once I finished my degree at university, I wanted to step out of my comfort zone and travel somewhere I had never been before. What better place to go than Africa? When I arrived, everyone at Antelope Park was so accommodating and the park itself was unbelievably beautiful.

The opportunity to ride every day in the park, seeing the wildlife such as zebras, wildebeest, impala and even giraffes was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Also being able to combine this with working with communities like going to the school and the SPCA, and also spending time with the wildlife such as the elephants, lions and rhinos was amazing!

I did so much in the time I was at Antelope Park, which consisted of the horses. There were so many opportunities to ride so many different horses and all in different environments, these included show jumping and dressage in the arena, safari rides in the park with the animals, polocrosse (which swiftly became a favourite), cross country in the bush, sunset and sunrise rides, boundary patrols, and one of my favourite activities, the horse swim.

I loved going to the SPCA to help with the dogs, kittens and even donkeys, it’s amazing to see the change that can be made by the volunteers going and helping with dog food and toys.

After the day was finished, we had great evening activities to do including sunset game drives, movie nights and quizzes. The vibe of Antelope Park really is amazing and I highly recommend coming and making some of the best memories you will ever have, as well as meeting some of the most amazing people.

Kim
