So the overall experience was really something I would do all over again.
I did my volunteering at Victoria Falls which is what I would recommend
The horses and wildlife program is again something I would prefer. It was really incredible to work with so many rescue horses and also go for afternoon rides.
The camp was very friendly and the staff was also super friendly and caring. It can be uncomfortable because again you are in the African wilderness, and things might not be as luxurious. Always ask if you need anything and the staff will help you
The food was good, they have specific timings which I am sure they would have briefed you on
The washrooms and living space are shareable. It is honestly nice to make a new friend, go around town and have lots of fun. Sometimes some volunteers might be a little annoying, But if you feel uncomfortable with anything again just share it with the staff.
They always help you
We did lion feeding and their conservative cleaning once a week, then we fed the Hyenas, ostriches, and vultures, cleaned their enclosures,
There are also Once a week environmental classes which were nice to learn about the local flora and fauna, protection of the environment etc etc
Then once a week we do game drives, we did a night game drive once and that was put on a special request. So we got to the stars and the Milky Way in pitch black, it was super incredible.
On weekdays it’s full volunteer work and on weekends you either rest or go out for more activities which I recommend you do!
Healthwise, I did not face any challenges
Make sure you have taken all your very important vaccinations
I suggest you get a mosquito/insect spray repellent. Very useful, mosquito net etc etc
Also, keep your medicines with you, it might be a hassle to to town to buy things in an emergency
Sunscreen on at all times, hydrate and eat well to avoid sunburn/fatigue as you will be outdoors
Personal safety- the camp is a very safe space but if you are going into towns don’t walk unknown roads alone, only use the designated car services that the camp will give you. Don’t get into anyone’s car if they tell you they can drop you
Water, drink from designated coolers, do not drink tap water or cold water from outside
The food outside is just super delicious! Go and try all the restaurants there
